About Kitchen Starts

Kitchen Starts began as a way to help my husband, Kia, lose a little weight. He struggled for years with his body although he worked out often and ate fairly healthy. One day I told him, ” just stop eating packaged foods”. He did this for one month, started shedding those stubborn pounds. Furthermore, he realized his goal of getting back to his college physique within a couple of months. I figured if he benefited with this idea, others would too. And thus, Kitchen Starts began.

Eat real food. Enjoy life. That’s what Kitchen Starts is all about.

History

I was born in Santa Cruz, California where my parents entertained frequently and whose Christmas Eve parties were epic. My love of cooking began at a young age when I realized that to get out of the pre-party cleaning I could help my mom in the kitchen. Consequently, the first recipe I made on my own was deviled eggs. Whether they were good or not, my supportive parents raved about them. I remember swelling with pride when I saw people eating them. From that point forward, I was my mom’s sous chef.

Furthermore, there are others in my life who have influenced my cooking in a tremendous way: Firstly, my second mom, a dear family friend and true Italian chef, whose love of food is infectious. Secondly, one of my best friends dad who taught me that delicious food can be healthy too. Thirdly, and more recently, my mother-in-law’s more healthful take on traditional Persian cooking.

Health-Focus

I’ve always tended to eat on the healthy side and luckily my parents entertained my eating habits at an early age, purchasing specific groceries just for my liking like kumquats, tofu, and soy milk (back then, we didn’t know how soy can be bad in large quantities).

Today, I love researching foods and what they bring to the table on a nutritional level. I try new foods. I try new cooking methods. Plus, I always strive for health and balance in my meals.

In 2010 I met my now husband Kia. We now live in Campbell, CA raising our French Bulldog and two children, Layla and Xavier. We normally host dinner parties on the regular, but during pandemic times, have been really missing our friends. In short, I hope this blog is a way to connect with old friends and new.

Stop eating processed foods. See how your body responds. It’s amazing!
